Main Teaching Lab

The main teaching laboratory with room for up to 50 students. Fitted out with 3 fume cupboards, coldroom and a huge amount of bench space allowing set ups for all kinds of lab work.

Instrumentation Lab

Set aside for instrumentation and analysis for basic techniques such as Spectrophotometry, pH, EC, DO.

Project/DEFRA Lab

Set up for projects where preparation of samples is best kept separate for risk factors, such as Hydrofluoric Acid preparation, this lab is set up with a fume cupboard with back-wash, microwave digestion system, autoclave, centrifuge, and drying oven.  The laboratory is also certified for DEFRA regulated analysis and preparation of soil samples.

Filled with microscopes for Pollen, Diatom, Testate Amoeba, Chironomids and other biological indicators used in Environmental Reconstruction and Geoarchaeology.

Perkin Elmer 2100 Optima ICP-OES, Perkin Elmer NexION 350D ICP-MS, and Metrohm 882 Ion Chromatographs, Shimadzu TOC-L Total Organic Carbon Analyser, and Thermo Flash 2000 CHNS/O Analyser.

Sediments Lab

This Laboratory houses our equipment for Rock Crushing, Milling, and Grinding; Ovens and Freeze Drier for drying samples; Furnaces for various experimental techniques; Weighing bench; and sediment core splitter.  All away from other analytical equipment to prevent contamination and disruption to other laboratory facilities.

Our Dark Room facility contains a fume cupboard, microbalance, and lighting for OSL dating with our portable reader.
